In other play, NSU fell 14-1 to Winona State (31-14, 12-2 NSIC) and 10-1 to Southwest Minnesota State (29-8, 14-0 NSIC). They will make up a doubleheader against Bemidji State Monday afternoon beginning at 1:00 pm.

Northern scored its only run of the game in the fourth inning as Hilary Smith, who reached with a single, advanced to third from an error and wild pitch. She was knocked in by Caitlin Hodges. The Wolves had the bases loaded with one out in the fifth inning Sunday morning, but they missed an opportunity to tack on runs by hitting into a double play. Winona added seven runs in the sixth to end the game 14-1.

GAME 4
Sam Francis hit a game-winning single to right center field, driving in two runs to gain a 2-1 win over Wayne State in ten innings. Wayne State out-hit the Wolves ten to four but it took until the top of the tenth inning for them to cross their first run. With a baserunner placed on second in the bottom of the inning, Caitlin Hodges drew a walk to represent the winning run. Two NSU batters went up and down and Francis came to the plate in a must-hit situation. She came through in a big way, knocking the team’s fourth hit of the game into right center field. Heather Olson scored easily from second base and Hodges won the race home, narrowly escaping the tag and giving Northern the win.

Francis finished with a team high two hits. Christi Schulte had another strong performance, pitching nine innings of shutout play. She struck out five batters in the win. Humphries led the Wildcats with three hits while the game’s RBI went to Rowland.
